Ministry and Addictions Vitae for Rev. Dr. David L. Hain :
Dave is the founder and Executive Director of ‘Etsah Ministries which is based in Quarryville, PA. Included in the ministry activities of ‘Etsah Ministries are: addiction counseling, family intervention and reconciliation, rehab and prison ministry, and workshops. The word ‘etsah is Hebrew for counsel of peace as is taken from Zechariah 6:13 which introduces the Messiah as one who will rule as both King and Priest. It is in this context that people struggling with addictions are set free by the counsel of peace of Jesus Christ. Dave has a vision to equip the Body of Christ to bring wholeness, healing and reconciliation to people, families and communities torn apart by substance abuse and other addictions.
Dave served as a missionary with Adventures in Missions leading more than 200 short-term mission groups in urban ministry in Philadelphia, PA, planting youth cell churches in England, planting home churches in university dorms in China, and working with orphans of AIDS in schools in Swaziland and Botswana. The main focus of Dave’s ministry in Philadelphia was bringing the love of the Father and the hope of the Son to people caught in the snare of heroin, cocaine and alcohol addiction. While ministering on the streets, in abandoned homes, crack houses, pimps houses, detox facilities and rehab and recovery houses, Dave has seen hundreds of people who had been addicted to drugs for years set free by Jesus Christ. At the same time Dave has been blessed to serve as a minister of reconciliation between addicts and estranged family members as God’s love brought healing to hundreds of families devastated by the effects of addiction.
Dave has a BA in History from Ursinus College, a Masters of Education from East Stroudsburg University and a Doctorate of Ministry in Christian Counseling and Missions from Faith Covenant Theological Seminary (www.fccca.org). Dave received the Certified Addictions Counselor Diplomate (CACD) designation from the Pennsylvania Certification Board. Dave has served as a Drug and Alcohol Counselor at New Journeys in Recovery in Philadelphia, PA, at Pennsylvania Counseling Services in Lancaster, PA and at Upward Call Counseling Services in New Holland, PA. While at Pennsylvania Counseling Services Dave was the Director of Specialized Services including Drug and Alcohol and Sex Offender counseling at several offices. In addition Dave has been an HIV/AIDS Instructor with the American Red Cross and an HIV Outreach Specialist with Esperanza Health Center, both in Philadelphia.
Coachwhip Publications published Dave’s first book, From Addict to Disciple: The First Twelve Steps and Walking the Path That Follows, in 2005. This book is intended for use by someone caught in the snare of substance abuse or other addictions and for the pastor, counselor, family member or any Christian seeking to understand and committed to serving in the ministry of healing. Through a combination of true accounts of addiction from the streets of Philadelphia, thought provoking and soul searching questions for journaling and discussion, and applied Biblical truth From Addict to Disciple presents a compelling roadmap to the addict and those who desire to help, showing how the light of God’s Word offers hope and promise to anyone seeking a path to wholehearted discipleship.
